Guardianship
It is a condition of entry to Boarding Schools that all pupils whose parents live overseas have a mature and responsible UK Guardian.
Guardians are for contact, for emergency support and may have pupils at half terms and exeats if they do not return home.
BOSSS Guardians was established in 2002 and has its own dedicated team of staff who are responsible for the welfare of the overseas students. Our Guardians will ensure that all the needs of your child are met and offers parents peace of mind and security in the knowledge that there is always someone there to give a helping hand.
Our UK Guardianship programme offers a total care package from day one of a student’s stay in the UK and throughout their study period.
We offer transfers to and from the airports and host families by taxi or personal driver. All of our drivers are DBS (Police Criminal Record) checked and have full insurance.
If the student is under the age of 16, parents are advised to contact the airline to arrange the Unaccompanied Minor service at the time of booking their flight.
We will contract a Taxi company to organise a driver to transfer the younger students between the schools and the airports, and offer a UM Service, escorting the student into the airport with their luggages, assisting in the check-in process before handing over the student to the airline staff, or collecting the student from airline staff on their return.
If your child/student is not travelling home for the school holiday period such as half term, Christmas and Easter holiday. We can organise a host family to look after them for this period. We will book the transfer to and from the host family by car with a personal driver, taxi, train or Coach depending upon the age of the student, and the family's preference.
BOSSS Guardians has a policy of visiting all our students on a regular basis to establish a relationship. This way our students know their Guardians and feel supported at all times. This also assists in giving them the confidence to telephone or text us whenever they need assistance in any way.
We can assist if there are other needs, such as an Educational Psychologist, Orthodontist and other appointments where necessary. We also attend school events such, Parents Evenings to support our students and to represent parents who are unable to attend.
We have a special arrangement with some schools.... whereby we have two staff who go to work and look after the students regularly.
One is a special teacher who mainly offers help and supervision on academic work - this staff is carefully selected, bilingual, competent in both Chinese and English, has usually been through many years of studies in the UK, and is therefore fully aware of the worries and concerns that the students may have; The other a highly regarded member of our team and can also visit school regularly, meet the children, listen to their worries and concerns, resolve their enquiries, communicate with parents, and offer practical help.
